I’m a Vancouverite who loves trail running, skate/classic/downhill skiingand snowshoeing.
What’s that? Oh, of course, my name is Christina Matheson. Hmm, other things to mention about myself. One time someone referred to me as an “athlete” and my partner just snickered, so perhaps I’m not quite there yet.

Hey Chrissy, thanks for stopping by my blog and checking out my Antarctica posts. No doubt you’ll have a fantastic time down there… those of us who made the trip this year would love to be able to join you. I guess my only real advice for the marathon itself (as if you asked for it!) would be to train on trails as much as possible, to get your feet and ankles used to the uneven terrain. The cold in March on King George Island should be mild compared to your winters there in Vancouver.
Speaking of feet and ankles, I’m a bone and cartilage biologist and so familiar with ankylosing spondylitis. I admire your ability, not just to persevere through the discomfort, but to do so while playing hours of Ultimate on a weekly basis. With your grit, Antarctica should be smooth sailing… even if the sailing itself isn’t always smooth.
Best of luck with your training and in Montreal… I’ll be rooting you on over the next 8 months!
Mike!
Great to hear from you, you’ve made my week! Thanks so much for your advice, I really appreciate it! It’s great to know that I’m on the right track with my training methodology – get my body used to trail running and uneven terrain.
Thanks for the support!
Chrissy
